Ute Micklos

Hi!  I'm Ute Micklos, better known as Mrs. Micklos or Ms. Mick, to some.  Having spent most of my career teaching at the middle school level in Mt. Shasta, art has always been at the forefront of my teaching.  Integration of the arts into the core curriculum is a specialty of mine. As GATE Coordinator, I developed a long-standing relationship with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to which we took many students to attend professional theatre performances. If you're ever in Mt. Shasta, you can see the many murals that adorn the walls of Sisson School.  Facilitation of these mural projects was my doing, as is the authoring of a $65,000 grant for a fully equipped painting and ceramic studio at Sisson.  I am happy that the studio will continue to be utilized by the teachers and students of Mt. Shasta. Awarded grants also include "A+ For Energy," which focused on the study of energy sources through the arts. These energy projects allowed me to travel to states throughout the nation, facilitating energy education conference workshops for teachers through the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED). Earlier in my career, I participated in the Eisenhower Arts Project, a four-year professional growth opportunity for Siskiyou County teachers, grades K-College. That project was hosted by the Northern California Arts Project (NCAP).  Cal State East Bay is where I received BAs and single-subject teaching credentials in Studio Art and in English Literature. My focus of study was in the areas of sculpture, photography, and painting. Siskiyou County is our home, where my husband and our two boys farm a small piece of land. I am happy to be here, at YHS, teaching to my passion and working in the district in which I live!
