Skip to main content - This is a comprehensive copy of my lesson plan book for each of the courses I teach.  Students will be able to access activities, worksheets, videos, texts, etc. from this website when they are absent from class.  The expectations is for students to become self-directed learners and utilize this tool to stay current and up-to-date with assignments and instructional materials.

Welcome Students, Parents, Colleagues and Friends:

The 2018-2019 school year marks my 18th year at Yreka High School as a teacher.  However, it feels like I've been here forever.  For me, YHS is much more than a school. It's my home, my community, my family, and my past, present and future. Because YHS has been such a huge part of my life, this is more than my job.  I approach my classrooms with a wholistic approach to education.  Students will  learn more than American Literature or U.S. Government.  Students will learn how to collaborate with each other, students will learn the value of community, students will be encouraged to be creative and disciplined, students will be empowered to try new things, share their thoughts and views and students will recognize themselves and others as valuable members of a community.  Additionally, I want parents, guardians, friends and family to feel like they are part of our community, as well.

Another big part of my professional life is my involvement with the Northern California Writing Project, the California Writing Project and the National Writing Project.  I am the Inservice Director for the Northern California Writing Project, a recognized Teacher-Leader for the State of California, and a teacher-consultant for the National Writing Project.  I've given presentations at the Annual Meeting of the National Writing Project and National Council of Teacher of English Annual Conference.  My involvement with these professional organizations connects me with amazing opportunities for YHS students and school.  For example, this year my students have been invited to participate in developing and sharing models of student work for instructional resources designed to accompany a new PBS Film entitled American Creed, created by Stanford Professor of History and Pulitzer Prize winning author, David Kennedy and Former Secretary of State Condolezza Rice. Students will have the opportunity to take their work public and inspire other students with their vision and ideas.

While most of my time is spent at YHS or a Miner activity, I do love spending time with my family. On the weekends, Ollie, my dog, and I can be found canning goodies from the garden with my parents, working in my yard or cuddled up on the couch watching football or a movie.  Yreka High School is a great school within the greater community of Yreka and Siskiyou County.  I look forward to seeing all of you around campus.  Go Miners!!
